DRAG RACING FANS VOTE NEW NAME FOR LEAH PRITCHETT’S RED CHROME GUMOUT DRAGSTER AS -- “THE LADY IN RED”
Fans send in variety of names from around the country for NHRA U.S. Nationals
CLERMONT, Ind. (Sept. 4, 2015) – After the popularity of the “Solid Gold” Gumout Expert Series dragster earlier this year, Gumout created another paint version of its Top Fuel dragster for driver Leah Pritchett and the Dote Racing team at this weekend’s prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals.
Utilizing the red chrome look for the biggest drag racing event of the year, Gumout set up a social media contest for the drag racing fans to name the 10,000-horsepower, nitro-burning dragster for the Labor Day weekend event at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.
The winning name for the new Gumout dragster look is ….. “The Lady in Red.”
“It is a perfect name for my Gumout car at the U.S. Nationals,” said Pritchett, the 27-year-old veteran racer from Avon, Ind. “The bright red chrome color is going to be the ladies’ favorite once it runs down the track at Indy. The fans helped with a lot of great names for the car and we felt this one is the best.”
“The Lady in Red” was a popular motion picture in 1979 and chart-topping hit in 1986 by British-Irish singer-songwriter Chris de Burgh. The song hit No. 1 in Europe and No. 2 in the United States.
“With the success of the ‘Solid Gold’ car in mid-season, we thought we would incorporate the gold chrome with the red paint,” said Leah, runner-up earlier this year at the Southern Nationals. “The new red chrome look should be a popular paint scheme with the fans and I want to thank them for voting for dragster’s new name.”
Friday night’s qualifying efforts were rain out for the 61st annual “Big Go” but Saturday will have two sessions scheduled at 4:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Sunday will have two more qualifying attmepts. The final eliminations are set for Monday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. EDT.
